Killing the glamour - Get ready for plain packaging

WHO message for World No Tobacco Day, 31 May 2016.Plain packaging of tobacco products can save lives by reducing demand for tobacco products, and is recommended in the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. "Plain packaging reduces the attractiveness of tobacco products. It kills the glamour,which is appropriate for a product that kills people," says WHO Director-General Dr Margaret Chan.

Framework Convention Alliance report on a study published byTobacco Control that assesses the impact of tobacco smoking on life expectancyworldwide between 1980 and 2010. Cause-specific mortality data from the WHOMortality Database (1980–2010) was extracted for 63 countries. GOLD Forum Promoted in Finland (12122016)

At the recent Tobacco and Health Symposium in Helsinki on 29th November, a poster of the nomination requirements for participation in the GOLD Forum Process was presented by Sinikka Krogerus and Reetta-Maija Luhta. Taiwan International Conference Celebrates 10 years of activity (12122016)

The 2016 International Conference on Health Promotion and Health Care Services was held by the Taiwan Network of Health Promoting Hospital and Health Promotion Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare on November 27, 2016 in Taipei, Taiwan.The conference was opened by Ying-Wei Wang Director General Health Promotion Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare. Tobacco-free activity and progressive achievements of healthcare services throughout Taiwan were presented and celebrated.

The Rights of Children to a Tobacco-free Environment (13122016)

This is the subject of a new research project being conducted within the Global Health Law Groningen Research Centre (GHLG). The study will investigate ho children are particularly vulnerable when it comes to smoking.
